River Bluff High School is one of the most sought out schools in Lexington, South Carolina. Curious why that is? River Bluff incorporates a new “flex mod” schedule that allows students to both have more control over their schedules and learn on a more independent level. Classes are set up much like that of a University. Some classes may have 15 to 20 students in them and others are set up more like a lecture with at least twice the students. Teacher’s will” team teach” on the larger structures to supervise and make sure all students are grasping each concept. All schedules offers classes in 30, 60 and 90 minute “Mods”.
Falling behind on your studies with this more independent approach to learning? Student’s schedules have blocks built in which River Bluff calls “independent learning time”. This “independent learning time” offers students the opportunity to catch up on work, use the research lab or receive additional guidance from their teachers or other tutors set up for all students. If a student is not taking advantage of the resources provided for them, the school, will then intervene and set up tutor sessions that the student must attend until their grades are at a satisfactory level. All in all, this approach is proven to provide the flexibility and independent learning tactics to better prepare students for college and instill more of a personal responsibility starting at the high school level.
River Bluff is designed with the latest technology and newest programs to accommodate 2,500 students at full capacity. It is 523,841 square feet and sits on 146.16 acres of land. Currently, Dr. Luke Clamp is the principal for the 2013-2014 school year. You can read more about Lexington District one schools and River Bluff High School HERE.
